XJTLU Introduces Learning Path Mentor to empower personalised student growth
Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) has recently upgraded its student support system with a new addition.
Building on the existing “Four Mentors” framework – academic mentors, personal tutors, peer mentors, and external mentors – the University has introduced a new role: the Learning Path Mentor (LPM). This creates a comprehensive “Five-Star Student Support System”, offering students professional, full-cycle guidance for their personalised academic journeys.
This week, the system officially launched for undergraduates. Students can now find their dedicated LPM information by logging into e-Bridge.
Feifei Zhu, Operations Director for Education, says: “LPM brings together academic administration expertise with educational support, helping students understand policies, spot opportunities, and plan their paths – building the ability to design their own learning and growth journey.
“At XJTLU, every member of staff also plays the role of an educator, because student growth doesn’t happen only in the classroom; it happens through every interaction students have with different parts of the University.”
The five types of mentors each play a distinct role while working together as one support ecosystem:
- academic mentors focus on students’ programme studies and research direction;
- personal tutors support overall growth and campus life;
- peer mentors offer peer-to-peer support and help students settle into campus life;
- external mentors connect students with industry resources and real-world experience; and
- the new LPM helps students map out their academic direction, understand academic policies and rules, and explore diverse learning opportunities and pathways.
