Chen Named Director of Educator Development and Teaching Excellence
Diane Chen, PhD, professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and vice chair for faculty and professional development in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, has been named Feinberg’s director of educator development and teaching excellence, effective October 1, 2026.
In her new role, Chen, who is also a professor of Pediatrics, and of Medical Social Sciences, will focus on advancing faculty development, strengthening teaching practices, and supporting educational innovation across the medical school.
“Some of the most meaningful experiences in my career have come from mentoring trainees and faculty as they develop their skills, discover their strengths, and grow into leadership roles,” Chen said. “I am excited to partner with educators across Feinberg to create opportunities that support their growth, celebrate their contributions, and ultimately enhance the learning experience for our students, trainees and colleagues.”
In this position, Chen will lead initiatives that help educators enhance their teaching effectiveness, develop new instructional skills, and create engaging learning experiences for students, resident physicians, fellows and faculty. She will work closely with academic leaders, faculty members and educational programs to further Feinberg’s commitment to excellence in medical education.
Chen brings extensive experience in academic leadership, research mentorship, and program development. As a clinician-scientist and faculty leader, she has built multidisciplinary clinical programs, led a federally funded research portfolio, and mentored numerous trainees and junior faculty who have gone on to successful academic careers, experiences that position her to advance educator development and teaching excellence across Feinberg.
As director, Chen will also oversee the Feinberg Academy of Medical Educators (FAME), which is dedicated to supporting and recognizing medical educators across Feinberg. She will oversee educator development programs, workshops and resources designed to support teaching excellence throughout the medical school. She will also help advance initiatives that recognize and celebrate outstanding educators while promoting evidence-based teaching practices.
