International Spanish Language Academy CAPP Committee Presents Their Plan to the School Board

November 2, 2026

Members of the ISLA arts team present their arts plan at the ISLA school board meeting in October 2026.

On October 26, 2026, the CAPP arts team at International Spanish Language Academy (ISLA) presented their arts plan at the ISLA school board meeting. Members of the ISLA arts team are Adriana Maldonado (Media Arts), Dominique Carrion Aviles (Visual Arts), Sam Sadlowsky (Music), and Sarah Devers (Director of Curriculum and Instruction). ISLA is one of nine charter schools and school districts participating in Perpich Center’s 2025-2027 Comprehensive Arts Planning Program.

Devers is particularly grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Perpich Center. “Our school community valued the arts’ already-strong foundation, supported by the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme alignment, collaborative specialist team, and community partnerships. The arts happened in an organic way at ISLA but with participation in the CAPP program, we have been able to be so much more intentional about planning our programming,” said Devers. “The specialists team now meets weekly to reflect on their practice and integrating arts across the curriculum. We have also created more structure for our arts programming through CAPP. It’s been an amazing experience to have the support of CAPP and Perpich Center.”

The ISLA CAPP arts team has been working on several initiatives: developing a comprehensive arts curriculum aligned with Minnesota K-12 Arts standards and IB Primary Years Programme, doing an extracurricular review, working on a monthly specialist newsletter, creating a spring arts showcase, planning for a weekend community arts day for families, and collaborating on an after school fall musical. ISLA’s Executive Director Molly Schwaiger and School Board Chair Heidi Estrada congratulated the team on their hard work and expressed their gratitude for the arts team!

Applications for the 2027-2029 cohort will be available in December 2026. Information sessions will start in November 2026.
